Breast reduction surgery in Sacramento

Living with large breasts can be a challenge. Some women develop chronic pains in the back, neck, and shoulders, while others feel prevented from taking part in activities they want to enjoy. Finding bras and clothes that fit can be a difficult task, along with issues regarding your self-image. Whether your reasons for getting a breast reduction are medical or aesthetic or a combination of the two, breast reduction surgery can solve some of your personal challenges and boost your self-esteem.

Who qualifies for a breast reduction?

If you are unhappy with the size of your breasts and feel they are larger than you would like, we invite you to schedule a consultation at SVIA in Sacramento. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have and advise you about the procedure, recovery, and what to expect in the final appearance of your newly reshaped breasts.

You may be a good candidate for a breast reduction if you:

  • Are bothered by larger, heavy breasts
  • Feel your activity is restricted by the size of your breasts
  • Have nerve pain or chronic pain in your neck, back and shoulders
  • Feel your self-image is impacted by the size of your breasts
  • Have a hard time finding bras and clothes that fit nicely
  • Are at a healthy weight
  • You are in good general health

How long does the surgery take?

Breast reduction surgery is a highly personalized procedure. The surgical techniques employed will depend upon the size and shape of your breasts, the quantity of fat and skin you will need to be removed, and the location of your nipples. The whole procedure typically takes two to four hours.

What happens during breast reduction surgery?

During your breast reduction you will be under general anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain. Your surgeon will make incisions and remove excess fat, breast tissue and skin to reduce the size of your breasts. Liposuction may be used as part of the procedure.

Your surgeon will reshape the breast mounds and may reposition your nipples to be centered on the breast mound, taking care to make your breasts as symmetrical as possible. Once your surgery is completed, your breasts will be covered with a special surgical bandage.

How long will it take me to recover?

After the anesthesia wears off, any post-surgical discomfort can be managed with prescription pain medication. You will be provided with detailed instructions for post-operative care. Some swelling or bruising is to be expected over the first few days to a week after surgery. For two to four weeks, you will need to limit physical activity, so your breasts heal.

Do not wear an underwire bra for the first few months after surgery. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are here to make your recovery smooth and uneventful, and to ensure you enjoy the difference in your life experience when you have a balanced, lovely figure!

When will I see my results?

You will be able to see the changes in breast size when the dressings are removed at a follow-up appointment at our private clinic. As any swelling subsides and surgical scars begin to fade, your final results appear. Your breasts will be more proportionate and depending on the surgical plan you and your doctors agreed upon, your nipples will be centered on the breast mound. Breast reduction results are long-lasting. You shouldn’t require any additional surgical procedures as long as you maintain a fairly stable weight after your surgery.
